Source localization in epilepsy
Content
Research concentrates on pre-surgical source modeling in focal epilepsy using EEG, MEG and EEG correlated fMRI. This includes both localization of the presumed epileptic focus as of function. The goal is to obtain tailored resections in epilepsy surgery on the basis of non-invasive data, or on defining optimal placement in the case of pre-surgical subdural grid implantation. In the latter case models for the invasive ECoG are considered as well. EEG, MEG and ECoG are all reflections of the same cortical activity, but each is influenced in a different way by geometrical and volume conductor properties. Proper modeling of these is therefore of paramount importance. For this purpose dedicated models and software are developed. Geertjan Huiskamp is responsible for the clinical EEG equipment, including that at the invasive epilepsy monitoring unit (IEMU).
