Biography
Francisco Fernandes has the BSc and MSc degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. In the past, he worked as a Junior Software Developer for Braincarta, where he developed automated pre-processing methods in the cloud and focused in particular on diffusion-weighted imaging. This led to his participation to the NeuroStars project, where he helped develop a new visualization tool for neurosurgical planning and surgery rooms.
He is currently a PhD student in the ‘Speak without Talking’ project, where he investigates whether silently spoken words can be detected and discriminated from the inferior part of the sensorimotor cortex: the face area. His tools can be found on GitHub.
