Registration and Imaging of Brain Systems

The RIBS group is a group of people doing research on the brain at the research facilities of University Medical Center in Utrecht, using a plethora of methods to measure brain function, such as fMRI and ECoG. In the RIBS group all scientists have their home department, like Neurology, Neurosurgery and Radiology, but we are all working together on the RIBS Server System administered by Vincent Kersten. There are currently several fundamental and applied topics of active research in the group, namely:

  • the development of Brain-Computer Interfaces;
  • the mapping of brain function in epilepsy and tumor patients;
  • the relationship between functional MRI and the underlying neuronal activity;
  • the development of tools for simulation of neuronal bioelectrical activity and for neurosurgical mapping.
